Character Info
Canon: Netflix' The Witcher. I'm sorry, mods; that link was all I could find.
Character: Yennefer of Vengerberg. Yen. Yenna. Piglet. Witch. Horrible, Useless Bitch.
Personality Profile: Yennefer of Vengerberg is consumed by endless longing. She wants, as she herself says, "everything." She wants to be important to someone, she wants to be loved, she wants the choice that was taken from her when she gave up her fertility for power. Now, she has all the power she likes, save the power to create the kind of legacy she wants (i.e., a child). Now, she looks back upon her quest for power rather bitterly, and calls herself a "glorified royal arse-wiper." She's served many kings and protected queens, yet she's impacted, in her opinion, nothing.
But there's more to Yennefer than a void of longing. She possesses a cutting wit, and she's quite vindictive. Free will is something that is to be violated when it serves her ends. She's also endlessly curious, indulging in both science and philosophy. She's clever and resourceful, and independent, traveling without an escort. Additionally, she's grown a sprig of selflessness since taking a stand for her world. The Battle of Sodden Hill changed Yennefer, to the point where she was no longer fighting for an order, but to protect the commoners of the North from the invading forces of the South. She nearly gave her life in the attempt.
Now, Yennefer is a bit less self-serving. She's still not given to heroism, precisely, and she's hardly a palatable personality, but she's been shocked into seeing worth and value in things beyond a quest for a legacy. Her cynicism has been shaken a bit, to the point where she will use her resources to help those she cares for, though her capacity for plotting and scheming still remains. Those who earn Yennefer's friendship or love will have a fiercely loyal sorceress at their backs, one who stops at nothing to keep them safe.
Suitability: N/A; Yennefer is 70+ years old.
Character Details
Abilities, Powers, & Skills: I realize that Yen is way overpowered for this game, so nerf as you will! I only request (if I may!) that she not be rendered powerless, as she is a mage, and I feel that this would remove too large a piece of her identity to recover.
• Spells in general. Basically, any spell you can imagine from Harry Potter or other magical books, Yennefer can perform it. There seems to be no limitation to what she can perform, save for moments when she is tired or experiences too much physical discomfort from the effort (e.g., she dislikes performing warming spells because they nauseate her). One serious limitation here is that she must have use of her hands or feet. Presently sealed to her.
• Energy blasts. As a quick dismissal of enemies, Yennefer can blast both people and monsters (size permitting) some distance away with a sweep of her hand. Presently sealed to her.
• Conjuration. Magic comes with a price in even the Netflix Witcherverse. If Yennefer conjures something, it comes at cost to something else, such as draining the life from organic things around her. In Springwood, she can only conjure something with no more weight than a pack of cards.
• Transfiguration. Let me know if this isn't allowed. It isn't demonstrated in the show, but in the Witcher book series, Yennefer turns people into animals to keep them from harming a dragon. I'm certain she has the same capability in the show, though they haven't yet had cause to incorporate it into the plot. Presently sealed to her.
• Illusions. Yennefer can cast perfect illusions of other people, even large groups, and even when she's otherwise occupied. As an exhibitionist, this ability comes in especially handy. Presently sealed to her.
• Potions. Although Yennefer has to buy magical ingredients from an apothecarist like anyone else, she synthesizes them to make potions for her shop.
• Portals. Creating portals to different locations takes a lot of effort and energy out of Yennefer, so she doesn't hold them for long. Each successive portal she casts weakens her. It isn't really explained in Witcher lore whether she has to know what the place looks like and where it exists in order to portal there, but one would assume. She can take others with her through portals, as long as they run through before it closes. Presently sealed to her.
• Telepathy. Yennefer can listen to other people's thoughts and transmit her own without speaking, though it's my impression that only those with some form of magic will be able to hear her. Presently sealed to her.
• Fighting with a stiletto. Yennefer demonstrates her handiness with a stiletto blade while cutting down reavers who are attempting to slay a dragon and steal its egg. Because these are hardened fighters, we can assume she's either quite good with a stiletto (as is suggested in one of the Witcher books), or that she uses magic to help enhance her abilities. Either way, this is her version of hand-to-hand combat; you won't find her performing in Daredevil-esque fights.
• Political savvy. Yennefer was a political advisor to Aedirnian kings for decades. Her political and advisory savvy, while not necessarily unmatched, are quite strong.
Inventory:
• Obsidian star and diamond necklace. Worn on a velvet ribbon, and adorned with an amethyst, Yennefer wears a necklace. In the show, it may simply be an adornment; however, in the books, the diamonds are constantly pulsating -- an activated accessory to keep her untraceable by her fellow mages. In Springwood, her necklace is only a mundane accessory.
• Stiletto. Yennefer carries a stiletto knife on her person.
Writing Samples (3rd person and text): Interview with a vampire. Old lovers (gets a bit NSFW toward the end). Trash party (text).
